OHSWEKEN, June 16, 2023 – June 16, 2023 marked yet another milestone in the history of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) with the first-ever convocation of students from the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages program (HBAOL). Additionally, we will celebrate the largest graduating class from the Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehohweh Languages (BAOL) class to date since the first convocation in 2017.
“The Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages advances SNP’s vision to achieve international distinction for excellence in Indigenous education, Indigenous language revitalization and continuance of Indigenous knowledge. SNP is pleased to launch this new degree during the United Nation’s Decade of Indigenous Languages which started in 2022 to 2032,” Rebecca Jamieson, President/CEO.
Graduates of the HBAOL and BAOL can join language revitalization efforts throughout Hodinohsó:ni`/ Rotinonhshonni territories as well as colleges, universities, and Indigenous organizations to gain meaningful careers as language teachers, translators, consultants, and curriculum developers. Above all, they can look forward to maintaining Ogwehoweh languages for future generations. SNP acknowledges the commitment required to complete each degree and extends sincere congratulations to the graduates for their achievements in language revitalization.
