Six Nations Polytechnic Welcomes Minister of Colleges and Universities and MPP for Brantford-Brant at the Brantford Campus

On January 22, 2025, Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) had the honour of hosting the Honourable Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges and Universities, along with MPP Will Bouma at the Brantford Campus.

SNP’s senior leadership team, including President/CEO Rebecca Jamieson, COO Rick Anderson, and Associate Dean – Skilled Trades Amy Wilkinson welcomed Hon. Minister Quinn and MPP Will Bouma for a tour of SNP’s state-of-the-art Skilled Trades facilities. During their visit, they engaged with students on their educational journeys, having powerful discussions on how beneficial SNP’s small class sizes and supportive learning environment have prepared them for their career and entering the workforce. The group also explored the distinctive Skilled Trades programs available at SNP, with a particular focus on the We are Welder’s – Women’s Program.

We are Welder’s – Women’s Program is a tuition-free program open to low-income women and non-binary applicants. This 28-week program is designed to equip participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to increase their income and economic security. To ensure students are career-ready; the curriculum includes workshops aimed to build confidence and acquire new trades-related skills/knowledge through a mix of theory and hands-on practical learning activities.

Following the tour, the group participated in an interactive welding demonstration led by program instructors. They had the exciting opportunity to operate advanced tools like the Plasma Cutter and Grinding machine.

“The interest and support shown for SNP learners in the trades sends a positive message to our learners that they and their skills are valued. We are very proud of our learners and pleased to see them gain employment with skills that will put them on the path to self-sufficiency.”

Rebecca Jamieson, President/CEO
