OHSWEKEN, June 11, 2025 – On May 8, 2025, Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) partnered with Haudenosaunee Health Inc. to host the Third Annual Ohahodoni: Health Symposium during Six Nations Community Awareness Month. The symposium welcomed over 400 attendees, including local Elementary and High School students, educators, and community members, who explored the various career opportunities in healthcare.
Guests engaged with interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities that highlighted nursing, diagnostics, mental health, and medicine. With the ability to interact with professionals and educational institutions, the symposium successfully fulfilled its main goal: to create a pathway. For many of the youth, this experience provided an inspiring introduction to pursue futures in health and wellness fields.
This event was made possible by the significant contributions of Six Nations Department of Well-Being as well as Siemens Healthineers, a leader in medical technology who are dedicated to empowering healthcare providers worldwide to deliver high-quality care that is accessible and affordable for all. As part of their generosity, they donated Chromebook Laptops, which served as exciting door prizes for six lucky youth. Six Nations Polytechnic and Haudenosaunee Health Services are extremely grateful for the generous support which led to the success of the Ohahodoni: Health Symposium.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to creating educational opportunities in healthcare for Ogwehoweh youth, Ohahodoni: helps plant seeds of possibility in our young people. By offering opportunities to see themselves as future health professionals, we hope to nurture not only their aspirations but also the future of our communities. We are thankful to the local health professionals who showed up for this event—your presence and support show our youth what is truly possible.”
- Amber Skye, Six Nations Polytechnic - Associate Dean of Health
“Ohahodoni: is just the beginning. We hope to continue building on this momentum to offer more events and opportunities that strengthen Indigenous representation in healthcare and education.”
- Colleen Montour and Michelle Jonathan, Haudenosaunee Health Inc.
