Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is pleased to announce that it will host the highly esteemed World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium (WINHEC) for the 25th edition of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the summer of 2027.
WINHEC, a globally respected network of Indigenous higher education institutions, was established in August 2002, with the signing of the Declaration on Indigenous People’s Higher Education at the former Delta Lodge, Kananaskis, Calgary in Alberta. The 2027 AGM marks a significant milestone – a quarter of a century of bringing together global Indigenous professionals in a collaborative effort to mitigate the challenges that traverse Indigenous education.
Reflecting Indigenous traditions of stewardship, continuity, and relationship, WINHEC commemorates each AGM host by inscribing its name on a wooden paddle, which is passed from one Nation to the next. SNP’s name currently adorns the paddle, as the institution had the honour of hosting the 2017 AGM, where it was recognized for its Indigenous-centered approach to higher education, innovative programming, and commitment to excellence, culminating in the achievement of WINHEC Accreditation.
SNP appreciates the vital role WINHEC’s initiatives serve in advancing prestige, visibility, and strategic development within Indigenous education. Fostering meaningful partnerships with Indigenous educators, researchers, and leaders from around the world aligns with SNP’s mission and commitment to sharing Indigenous language, culture, and knowledge through respectful collaboration and reciprocal learning. SNP openly welcomes this distinguished international gathering and values the opportunity to learn, exchange knowledge, and strengthen relationships with its esteemed guests.

Kevin “Bubba” Martin, Chair of the SNP Board of Governors, eagerly anticipates the opportunity to welcome the WINHEC family back to Six Nations for a week of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and relationship building during the 2027 AGM, scheduled for July 19-23, 2027.
