Six Nations Polytechnic is excited to be conducting a new research initiative funded by the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO), as part of a broader Consortium on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) involving colleges and universities across Ontario.

The project, Leveraging AI for Indigenous Language Learning, will examine if and how artificial intelligence can enhance language teaching methodologies in ways that complement and strengthen the traditional in-person programming currently offered at Six Nations Polytechnic. The research will also explore whether these emerging technologies can support the preservation of sacred Indigenous Knowledge while upholding principles of data sovereignty. Through focus groups and consultation with Knowledge Guardians and the Six Nations community, Six Nations Polytechnic will gather critical feedback to determine whether AI can respectfully support the protection of sacred knowledge and the honouring and reclamation of Indigenous languages.

As a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, Six Nations Polytechnic is poised to engage in this important work. This opportunity marks a transformative step in our commitment to Indigenous language revitalization, digital innovation, and community-led education. We extend our gratitude to HEQCO and all collaborators and community members who will guide this work. Follow SNP’s journey as we advance Indigenous language revitalization through research, innovation, and community collaboration. Stay tuned for updates, events, and opportunities to get involved!
