International Decade of Indigenous Languages

Six Nations Polytechnic Celebrates the United Nations’

International Decade of Indigenous Languages

The United Nations has declared 2022-2032 the International Decade of Indigenous Languages. As a way of marking this occasion, Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) and the Deyohahá:ge: Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC) will host and participate in a range of activities that celebrate Hodinohso:ni’ languages and promote their use in our everyday lives. As part of this effort, we will be seeking to:

  • Engage with the Six Nations of the Grand River community around how we can support language preservation and revitalization
  • Highlight and celebrate existing initiatives and efforts
  • Continue efforts to document first and second-language speakers
  • Highlight existing resources and develop new ones
  • Create more opportunities for language learning
  • Create additional opportunities for language use, and more!

Watch our SNP social media and website to follow along and connect with us further as we celebrate Ogwehoweh languages and language learners!
