Commercial Kitchen & Lunch Counter Opportunity

Six Nations Polytechnic invites proposals from qualified food service providers to lease and operate a lunch counter and commercial kitchen located at our Brantford Campus (411 Elgin Street). This opportunity includes:
- Providing affordable weekday lunch service for staff and students (Monday through Friday, for purchase)- minimum of 3 days per week, up to 5 based on campus needs.
- Providing coffee & snack service daily for staff, students, and tenants per campus traffic and demand, with potential to offer evening food service to sports organizations and other renters during additional operational hours.
- Utilizing the kitchen outside of SNP service hours to support your own business operations (e.g., catering, meal prep, pop-ups), with the understanding that these business activities must not affect your ability to meet SNP’s food service needs.
- Catering for on-site events and meetings hosted by Six Nations Polytechnic and the opportunity to offer catering to our rental clients, providing an additional revenue stream
Please note: Occasional restrictions on kitchen use may apply during large-scale or special events hosted at the facility. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
Key Details:
- Location: 411 Elgin Street, Brantford
- Monthly Rent: The full rental rate for the kitchen would be $1,500 per month, but flexible business models will be considered, including, but not limited to, the option to reduce rent in exchange for a percentage of sales, soft-launch rates, etc.
- Availability: Breakfast & Weekday lunch service required (3-5 days per week); flexible use outside those hours, within operational hours 7:30 am-8:00 pm (these are subject to change)
- Facilities Include: Commercial kitchen-health unit inspected and A-certified. The lunch counter is “as is” and will require setup and inspection prior to use.
- Lunch Service Hours: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Monday through Friday only (except during holidays, campus closures, etc.
- Expected Start Date: Soft launch- September 2025
- Contract Duration: To be discussed.
- Partnership Continuance: will be subject to customer satisfaction feedback.
Proposal Requirements:
Proposals should include the following:
- Business Overview – Description of your food business, experience, core offerings, and preferred contract duration.
- Sample Lunch Menu – Proposed menu for staff and students, with some options each day that are less than $10
- Business Model – Overview of how you plan to use the kitchen for your business beyond weekday breakfast & lunch service.
- Compliance Documentation – Valid food service license, proof of insurance, and required health certifications.
- Staffing Plan – Description of your team and responsibilities.
- References – Contact information for at least two professional references.
Evaluation Criteria:
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Food quality, creativity, and affordability
- Business experience and operational plan
- Health, safety, and licensing compliance
- Alignment with community values (e.g., healthy eating, sustainability)
- Flexibility and interest in catering for internal and rental events/meetings
- Interest in contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
- First consideration will be given to applicants from Six Nations and other Indigenous communities.
