Champions for Change Conference 2018

CHAMPIONS FOR CHANGE (C4C) is an Indigenous education conference focussed on reciprocity, Indigenous sustainability, and closing knowledge gaps pertaining to Indigenous Peoples in Canada. The conference originated in 2013 and has become an integral part of SNP’s signature education conference series.

The theme of this year’s conference is Honouring Connections: Exploring Notions of Indigenous Sustainability. C4C 2018 provides an opportunity for Indigenous leaders, learners, educators and institutions in support of education to consider the connections we have to the environment, the natural world and one another through the lens of the Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address.

Speakers will include Tom Deer, Rick Hill, Kelsey Leonard, Aisha and Joe Restoule-General, Taylor Gibson, and more.

Hotel rooms have been blocked off for conference participants to reserve at The Bears InnThe Best Western, and Holiday Inn Express & Suites

Upon registering, you will be able to select two workshops you'd like to attend.

Day 1 Workshops will be from 3:00pm - 4:00pm (November 14th)
Day 2 Workshops will be from 2:20pm - 3:20pm (November 15th)

Plant Life as Medicine
Day 1 – Listen & Learn with Elva | Day 2 – Learn & Make Your Own Medicine with Elva and students.

This two-part workshop, facilitated by Elva Jamieson and students, will teach delegates about the plant life around us and how we can work with them to prepare for the cold and flu season.

The Three Sisters & How To Make Your Own Seed Bag

Participants of this workshop will have the opportunity to make their own leather seed bag to take-home while listening to Deyohaha:ge Indigenous Knowledge Centre’s stories and other knowledges surrounding the Three Sisters (corn, beans, and squash).

Hodinohsoni Social Dances & Songs

Rock your mocs in this fun and active workshop with Cam Hill, Lindyn Hill and Elan Henhawk and learn Hodinohsoni social dances and songs.
Mohawk & Seneca Room - Capacity 40

Our Sustenance: How to Make Blueberry Mush with White Corn

Through an interactive and delicious hands-on workshop, Kitty Lickers will teach students the nutritional value in Hodinohsoni foods like white corn mush with the added flavour of blueberries.
