Program Description

This course is designed to assist educators seeking to enrich professional practice and extend knowledge, dispositions and skills in the development and delivery of Special Education Programs. Participants will engage in a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, learning theory, mandated policies, program planning, development and implementation, instructional design and practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment, research and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning in the Special Education field. Through these explorations, candidates strengthen professional efficacy by gaining in-depth knowledge, refining professional judgment and generating new knowledge for practice. The Special Education Pt. 1 AQ is designed with an anti-oppressive stance in mind, stressing the inclusion of Indigenous students in the classroom. 

Additional Qualification (AQ) Courses are professional learning opportunities for educators who are registered with the Ontario College of Teachers. Six Nations Polytechnic is an approved AQ provider.

Non-certified teachers will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

Prior to the first class: 100% (minus $50 admin fee)

After the first week of class: 75% refund (minus $50 admin fee)

After the second week of class: 50% refund (minus $50 admin fee)

After the third week of class: 25% refund (minus $50 admin fee)

After the fourth week of class: 0% refund
