Communication 2: The Scholar’s Voice

Course Description

This course delves into the mechanics of writing (including grammar, spelling, structure, and punctuation) not merely to foster the use of ‘correct’ prose, but also to convey subtleties, emphasize points, identify audiences, and engage readers. Coursework also covers how to incorporate the work of others to create a ‘scholarly dialogue,’ including quoting, citing, and referencing conventions for both written and oral sources. An additional focus is an idea of writing as a living practice: exploring and developing effective strategies, personalized writing tools, and productive writing habits, as well as reflecting on these processes and results.
