Course Description
This course employs SNP’s “Two Road Epistemology” to teach argumentation as both an academic strength and a culturally-grounded practice. Using historical and contemporary sources, students will learn how to find a compelling topic, fairly evaluate evidence, identify bias, understand the place and power of emotional appeals, deploy effective counterarguments, and demonstrate argumentative ethics. An additional focus is the development of a writing community in which members hear, evaluate, and respond to one another’s perspectives and approaches.
