Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct sets clear the standard of expectations that apply to all individuals at and involved in SNP STEAM Academy (students, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners), whether at school, on school buses, at school-related events or activities, or in other circumstances.
All students, parents, teachers, and staff have the right to be safe and feel safe in their school community. The objective of the ‘Code of Conduct’ is to codify what is needed to encourage a positive learning atmosphere which assists students in the building of community.
Hodinohso:ni Values
Students, guests, and staff are to be treated with respect and dignity. In return, they must demonstrate respect for themselves, for others and for the responsibilities of citizenship through acceptable behavior.
Hodinohso:ni people are given four gifts: Love, Compassion, Strength and a Good Mind. These gifts can be used by all people to show respect and responsibility. In everything, we ask that our students build a community of people where we all feel welcomed. To do this, emphasize the demonstration of the values of Ga’nigohi:yo/Ka’nikonhri:io:
Fairness Confidentiality Responsiveness
Sharing Consistency Cooperation
Honesty Integrity Openness
Kindness Responsibility Trustworthiness
To show these values and build community, we expect our students to show respect for all, including but not limited to:
School Dress Code
In keeping with Hodinohso:ni values of Ganigohi:yo/Kanikonhri:io (Respect and a Good Mind), STEAM Academy maintains reasonable and responsible standards for a dress for staff and students. The dress code is to be adhered to every day while in school, during exams, or while participating in any off‐campus school‐sanctioned event. The dress code is to be adhered to every day while in school and it includes:
- clothing that is neat, clean and appropriate
- clothing that does not contain inappropriate messages, pictures or innuendos
Students that do not adhere to the dress code may be asked to change, cover up, or leave until returning with appropriate clothing.
Acceptable Use of Technology
All STEAM students are provided with a lap top to use during their years at STEAM Academy and free wireless access. This is a privilege, not a right and the lap tops can be taken away as seen fit. This is applied to all technology provided to students by STEAM Academy.
Students must sign a Responsible Use of Technology Agreement before being given a lap top. If the student is under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must sign it as well. Students are responsible using and storing their lap tops safely.
Electronic Devices and Cellphones
Mobile phones/devices should be silenced and away during all class times. Earbuds must also be put away during class times. The process for managing phones/devices in classrooms is:
1) If a phone is seen/heard students will get one warning to put it away
2) Students who refuse to put their phones away will be asked to put it in the classroom cellphone holders
3) Students who refuse the cellphone holders will be asked to see the Vice Principal to go over the cell phone policy and a phone call home will be made
4) For a second occurrence, the student will be sent to the office and their phone will be kept there until the end of the day
5) If a third occurrence happens, step 4 will be repeated but a parent/guardian will have to call to give permission to have the phone released to the student
Bullying
There is a Zero Tolerance Policy for any and all forms of bullying at STEAM Academy:
